How to Bake Buffalo Cauliflower Wings
  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare Batter: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, water, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper until smooth.
  3. Coat Cauliflower: Dip each cauliflower floret into the batter, ensuring it's fully coated. Shake off any excess batter and place the florets onto the lined baking sheet in a single layer.
  4. Bake: Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the cauliflower is crispy and golden, flipping halfway through the cooking time.
  5. Prepare Buffalo Sauce: While the cauliflower is baking, combine the buffalo sauce and melted butter in a bowl.
  6. Toss in Sauce: Once the cauliflower is done, remove it from the oven and toss the florets in the buffalo sauce until well coated.
  7. Bake Again: Return the cauliflower to the baking sheet and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the edges are crispy and the sauce has set.
  8. Serve: Let cool for a few minutes and serve with celery sticks, carrot sticks, and your favorite dipping sauce, such as ranch or blue cheese.

Ingredients

  • 1 medium head cauliflower, cut into bite-sized florets
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (or a gluten-free alternative)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup buffalo sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter or a vegan butter alternative
  • Canola oil for frying
  • Directions

    1. Prepare the Batter: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, water, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper until smooth.
    2. Coat the Cauliflower: Dip each cauliflower floret into the batter, ensuring it's fully coated. Shake off any excess batter.
    3. Heat the Oil: Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or frying pan over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test by dropping a small bit of batter in the oil—it should sizzle and float to the top.
    4. Fry the Cauliflower: Carefully place a few cauliflower florets into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 3-5 minutes or until golden and crispy, turning occasionally to cook evenly. Remove and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
    5. Coat in Buffalo Sauce: In a bowl, combine the buffalo sauce and melted butter. Toss the fried cauliflower wings in the buffalo sauce until fully coated.
    6. Serve: Serve immediately with celery sticks, carrot sticks, and your favorite dipping sauce.
