Caramelita bars are the ultimate indulgent treat, featuring layers of chewy oats, rich caramel, gooey chocolate, and crunchy walnuts. The buttery oat crust serves as the perfect base for the smooth caramel filling, while the mini chocolate chips melt into a delicious layer that complements the sweetness of the caramel. With a crumbly, golden top and a mix of textures in every bite, these bars are a decadent dessert that’s perfect for any occasion.

How to Store Leftovers

  • Room Temperature: Store leftover caramelita bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3-4 days.
  • Refrigerator: If you want to keep them longer, place them in the fridge, where they’ll stay fresh for up to 1 week.
  • Freezing: For extended storage, wrap individual bars in plastic wrap and place them in a freezer-safe bag or container. They can be frozen for up to 3 months. When ready to enjoy, thaw them at room temperature.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups quick-cooking oats
  • 1 1/2 cups light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 cup melted butter
  • 1 (14 oz) package caramels
  • 1 small can (5 oz) evaporated milk
  • 1 cup mini chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • Directions

    1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.
    2. In a large bowl, combine flour, quick-cooking oats, light brown sugar, baking soda, and melted butter. Mix until the mixture becomes crumbly.
    3. Press half of this mixture into the greased baking pan to form the base.
    4. Bake for 10 minutes or until lightly golden.
    5. While the base is baking, combine the caramels and evaporated milk in a saucepan over low heat.
    6. Stir continuously until the caramels are completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
    7. Once the base is baked, sprinkle the mini chocolate chips and chopped walnuts evenly over it.
    8. Drizzle the caramel mixture evenly over the chocolate chips and nuts.
    9. Crumble and press the remaining oat mixture over the caramel layer.
    10. Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
    11. Allow the bars to cool completely before cutting them into squares.
